Yesterday I found a same-day return flight to Palma that falls right in the February half-term holiday.

This series is about finding cheap travel deals and seeing what kind of day I could squeeze out of them — where I’d go, what I’d see, and what I’d eat.

The rules

  • Same-day return
  • No hotel
  • No big plan
Just seeing what kind of day I could get out of a cheap ticket.

The flight deal

I came across this while searching flights:

  • Route: London Gatwick → Palma de Mallorca
  • Price: £97 return
  • Airlines: easyJet
  • Flight times: Depart London Gatwick 07:00 → Arrive Palma de Mallorca 10:25, Return Palma de Mallorca 21:00 → Arrive London Gatwick 22:30

The flight isn’t too early or too late, so it’s actually doable — even with children — and still gives a full day in Palma without needing a hotel.

Getting into the city

Palma Airport is only a short distance from the city centre, so getting into Palma is easy and quick. From there, you’ve got a few options.

From the airport:

  • Bus – cheap and reliable, with regular services straight into central Palma (€8 return)
  • Taxi – convenient if you’ve got luggage or want to save energy, but more expensive
  • Car hire – useful if you’re planning to explore more of the island during your stay

I’d get the bus into town and walk from there.

What I’d do on an extreme day out in Palma

Nothing too complicated — just walking, eating, and enjoying being somewhere warmer.

  • Breakfast at Fornet de la Soca – coffee and cake to start the day, a quick stop before heading to the cathedral. I follow them on TikTok and have always wanted to visit, so I’d go there if I were in Palma.
  • Palma Cathedral (Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca) & Royal Palace of La Almudaina – I’d go inside the cathedral because it looks stunning in the photos and book in advance to avoid queues. Then I’d stop to admire the Royal Palace from the outside. The area around the cathedral seems really lovely, so I’d wander around nearby, take lots photos, and enjoy it.
  • Lunch for tapas – somewhere that looks good along the way. I might check a few options beforehand, but I’m happy to be flexible.
  • Old town wandering – walking around, browsing shop windows, popping into shops here and there, and just spending a relaxed afternoon exploring the old town.
  • Evening tapas – probably another tapas stop for dinner, why not, with a glass of wine, before heading back to the airport.

Final thought

£97 return for a same-day trip to Palma during February half-term feels like a really good deal.
It’s a long day, but the times are manageable, the city is walkable, and you get a full day of sun, food, and wandering without needing a hotel. A perfect day out with kids too — easy to explore and lots to enjoy.

Another extreme day out, made possible purely because the flight was cheap.

Prices mentioned were correct at the time of writing and may vary. Just a reminder: this is how I’d do it — everyone’s experience may be different, so use it as inspiration rather than a strict plan!
